Helping Our Community

Do you know of a nonprofit in need of volunteers, specific non-monetary donations, or is having an event or fundraiser?  Let us know, we'll add it to the list!

Walking School Bus

Gently used coats and shoes/boots for children

The Walking School Bus Initiative is in need of volunteers. Their mission: The PCI Walking School Bus recruits & trains volunteers to walk kids to school—promoting on time & safe arrival, daily exercise, and adults mentorship. Created to address chronic absenteeism, our dedicated volunteers ensure that each child, living within a mile of school and needing to walk, arrives on time, even when a family member is unable to walk with him or her. The program has improved the attendance of students who were chronically absent to  near perfect attendance and currently serves the Fogarty, Bailey, Young Woods, Lima, Kizarian, and D'Abate elementary schools in Providence, Rhode Island.

Packs of underwear for children and teens

Blankets, hats, scarves, mittens and warm socks

FSRI is creating “Cozy kits” with blankets, hats, scarves, mittens and warm socks and distributing them with gift certificates that families can flexibly use to purchase urgent needs.

“I know I love to buy toys for kids in need.  But this year kids and their families need food in their bellies and ways to stay warm,” said another FSRI team member.  “This is not about what I want to give but about what families desperately need right now.  We have to be able to step out of the box this year and do things differently – we have to go beyond what is expected – listening  and doing what is needed and right.
